We need to ration residential housing to one unit per household. Rich people can build bigger homes but they shouldn’t have more than one. Also, we should destroy the rental market and allow true price discovery i.e. no companies owning residential housing either.

I honestly don’t think anything will change until there are violent riots on the streets. Until then, governments of any colour will continue to work for their corporate backers.

We need to use modern prefab technology.

At the risk of sounding like a Marxist…. I reckon the problem is deeply rooted in global systems.. AKA (the dreaded (that the right have difficulty understanding apparently)): systemic.
However, there is clearly engineered mass immigration, that the left cannot see
And the right cannot see that its SOMEWHAT causal from the illegal middle east… -

Hi, I searched Liams name as people had good things to say about his book. I do agree with his outlook on things. I like how he’s actually addressing the obvious flaw in Britain, although the housing crisis was set in motion well before Blair and Brown. Build more houses, alongside infrastructure maybe easier said than done but it is the solution…

I worked for a housing charity, most rough sleepers are chaotic drug users smoking spice. Rough sleeping is a mental health issue and not a housing issue.

What bugs me, is the restrictions against “trailer-parks”. They seems a rapid and cheap way of providing housing to lots of people. Look around the coast and you see millions of examples (all restricted to 9 months per year occupation). Roll the concept out across the country and “boom” crisis solved in a matter of months.

He brings up the counterpoint to the immigration argument in the form of France and whilst I agree with a majority of his points, I have to respectfully disagree here. France has less than half of the UK’s population density and if you compared England to France it becomes a 3.5:1 ratio. Despite this, he correctly points out that we still have…

The liberal class gains made in since the classical economists are being reversed by the banksters. The old nobles have been replaced by a world wide fascist plutocracy. They want the middle class gone; and the the sheeple have allowed themselves to be mal-educated into going along with it.
Immigration has nothing to do with it. Like the…

The problem is not that we don’t have enough houses. The problem is that our economy is far too London-centric so the housing stock elsewhere goes unused. There are whole estates in Middlesborough which have less than 50% occupancy. We need more investment in regions like the North-East and the housing crisis will evaporate.

I have, I don’t consider endlessly building more houses to meet the demand of immigration to be a viable solution. It is obviously true that you can just increase supply to match demand and the will be no crisis. But I don’t want more of our countryside concreted over to house the increasing population solely due to immigration. Just reduce demand

You haven’t engaged with the point Liam made.
France has had more immigration and doesn’t have a housing crisis. What do you think about this? -

Didn’t hear any questions / comments regarding the destruction of the unitary family and the fact that more people now live alone. Is that trend (and the resulting impact on housing) covered in the book?

Why does so much focus have to still be aimed at “owning a home/property”? In much of Europe professional & other people are happy to rent. This is because the rental property either has rent capped or is reasonable. The homes are good quality & people like living there. Of course there will still be people wanting to own, that’s fine, except when…

Full disclosure: I’m president of the Council of Georgist Organizations. Most people, including most Georgists, only associate him with land value tax. They forget, or never found out, that he got the secret ballot into the United States, led the campaign for municipal ownership of public utilities, started the eventual downfall of the patronage…

Just about everybody uses the term “capitalism” the same way, whether on the left and the right, but Marx coined the term. As a result, the dictionary definition is his definition. However, his real contribution to economic confusion was in redefining the word “capital” to include land and money. People speak of those with money as having capital,…

Wow … that’s me well and truly spanked, and I suppose I must say; “thank you for the education”.
I was completely unaware of George’s writings on money; only his proposal to tax land/rent and perhaps that Georgists extended this to other natural resources & monopolies.
Re “Capitalism”; I wasn’t actually thinking of Marx, but using the term… -
